Why do we connect with parents?

For virtual teaching, it is important that teachers, parents and students are all connected.  Studies have shown that at home learning is more successful when the teacher regularly checks in with the family.  Some families may have a hard time teaching their child concepts due to multiple  factors such as having multiple children to tend to, working during their child's learning time, illiteracy, and limited English proficiency.  Checking in with parents allows teachers to build a relationship with the family and encourage them to keep trying!

  • ClassDojo - Teachers may communicate with parents using ClassDojo.  This program allows parents to share pictures, announcements, personal messages.  Parents can also translate messages.
  • Remind - Parents can be reached using remind.  Teachers may not engage with students via the one-to-one chat unless the student is over the age of 13.
  • Teams  - Teachers may use the microsoft teams platform to  connect with parents and students

Updates from the district

This just in: The State advised local school districts to extend the school closures through May 1, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While we certainly miss our students, their safety, and the health of our community, remains of critical importance. All events through May 1 have been canceled at this time, but there are no changes to graduation as of yet. Our digital learning plans are now being enacted, and we will continue to support our students, families, and teachers on this new learning journey. #LearningNeverStopsinSDOC
