For this project I chose the topic of auditory segmentation, which we call "Break-it-Down". This is a seemingly-simple skill, but proves to be very challenging for pre-reader students to master. I designed this project to be viewed by kindergarten parents to help their children, but also can be viewed by the student with or without adult help.
My students love the listening center, but many of my resources are still on casette tape! For this project I wanted to update a simple book that students love into a fun audio book they could follow along with.
As mentioned with the graphics-layout project, many students in kindergarten have trouble with auditory word skills. Phonological awareness is the over-arching skill set that is an intregal part of reading and writing literacy. Research is showing that upper-grade students and even adults with reading difficulties often have trouble with phonological awareness. I designed this webpage to help parents of kindergarten children, or teachers new to kindergarten, get a basic understanding of these important skills.
