About Me
My name is Rachel EnglishI was raised most of my life in south Florida, living only 20 minutes from the beach. Such proximity to the beach growing up has made it such a deep part of me that I don't know if I could ever move away from this state! Originally born in Queens, New York, I absolutely love to visit that amazing city and the family I have there. Other family brings me to visit the open-country of southern Wisconsin, while my husband's family is near them in the windy city Chicago. I met my husband Joe when I was only 16, working at the Dairy Queen together. We both moved to central Florida after high school to persue education, and stayed to start our family. We were married in 2001 and have been blessed with two happy, healthy, "bouncing" baby boys: Luke, age 13, and Aylen, age 4.
My Education and Career
My original major at UCF was Liberal Arts, which quickly turned into Art Education. Really desiring to work mostly with children, however, I found my "calling" in Elementary Education. Always loving art but not wanting to be that once-a-week-for-20-minutes "art teacher", I thought of using art to teach in the every-day classroom. I especially wanted to reach children that may not get regular opportunities to explore art and culture in their community. After graduating I found a natural fit at Midway Elementary School of the Arts magnet school in Sanford. Thirteen years later, I am back at UCF pursuing the next level of education. I want to bring what I have learned about education and artful learning into the future with a degree in Instructional Design.
