This book covers the basics of instructional design through the use of the ADDIE model (Assessment, design, development, Implementation, and Evalutation). It was required reading in two of the fundamental courses of the program.

Norman, D. (2013). The design of every day things. New York, NY: Basic Books.

This book is essential reading for designers in all fields. The author, a cognitive scientist, discusses bad design with a host of examples in order to prompt the reader to think of the rules of good design.

Eggen, P., & Schellenberg, S. (2010). Human memory and the new science of learning. In Khine, M.S. & Saleh, I.M. (Eds.), New science of learning: cognition, computers and collaboration in education. (79-108). New York, NY: Springer.

This book contains seminal readings on currently prevailing learning theories by well-renowned voices in the field. Of particular interest is Chapter 2, which explains in plain language and great detail the interaction of human memory with learning and processing theories.

Canvas
Canvas is a Learning Management System (LMS) which is free to use and easy to navigate. The University of Central Florida uses Canvas for its online courses, and I have made several courses using this site.

Web Accessibility Guidelines
The WAG are nessesary for any web designer to know. Within K-12 education, it is unlawful to use inaccessible materials with a class in which there are students with disabilities.
