Key Points:

  • The United States was once again isolationist at the beginning of WWII
  • Less involved in world trade and more neutrality acts passed
  • Embargo placed on Japan caused the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the beginning of U.S. involvement in the war
  • The majority of U.S. involvement of the war occured on the Pacific front
  • Island hopping strategy was undertaken to get closer to Japan
  • Holocaust was occuring at the same time as the fighting in the war
  • European front ended months before the Pacific front
  • War officially ended after the dropping of the two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Key Points:

  • On the homefront the government took control of industrial production
  • Involvement in the war ended the Great Depression by employing people and increasing production
  • Minorities experienced success throughout the war. Women and African Americans served in factories and in the military
    *Only during the war, they were fired when the men came home from war
  • Discriminatory especially toward Japanese Americans
  • Sparked the beginnings of the CIvil Rights Movement as minorities were gaining more rights and freedoms
