About me
You might be wondering who I am. You opened this portfolio to get a closer look, so you must be at least a little interested, right? You may have already noticed my name is Christi DiSturco, but that doesn't tell you a whole lot about me. So, let me fill in the gaps.
For beginners, I am a nontraditional student in several manners. First, I am mother of two teenage daughters and I work full time in higher education. Secondly, I have completed my bachelor's degree completely online due to my hectic and busy schedule. I am currently working on two masters degrees, one in Applied Learning and Instruction and the other in Educational Leadership.
The faculty at the University of Central Florida have always challenged me to use critical thinking skills to solve challenging problems. The personal motivation and time allocation needed for taking online courses can be a challenge, but it is a challenge I faced and succeeded at, semester after semester.
What little free time I have, I spend attending my daughter's soccer tournaments and games, which take up most of the weekend. They both play competitively on traveling teams and my oldest also plays on her high school Varsity soccer team.
Finding the time for family, school and work is challenging and rewarding just like integrating disciplines in an interdisciplinary approach can be challenging and rewarding. Finding solutions to issues that cannot be solved by one single discipline may be resolved by looking at the issue through an interdisciplinary lens.
So, if you are still reading this, you have read through my About Me statement. I hope you are no longer wondering who I am. I am Christi DiSturco.
