Caravaggio's Legacy

A Brief Lesson

This lesson will provide a brief exploration into the significant place Michelangelo Caravaggio holds in art history. Together, we will follow Caravaggio through his life, exploring his work and his influence on later art periods.

In a brief PowerPoint presentation, students will have the opportunity to analyze how Caravaggio's reputation as a criminal influenced his style. Individual works can be analyzed independently in the gallery. In a short audio podcast, the instructor will delve into his most important contribution to art history, chiaroscuro. Students will also have the opportunity to take an optional short-answer assessment that prompts the learner to critically think about how art styles evolve and the artist's significance in history.
