Defining Florida Xeriscaping: Planting only the naturally occurring plants that are indigenous to an area.

Site Preparation

Before plants can be set into the ground to be planted, the soil may need to be worked with including :

Grading- with grading the soil, water can drain away from the planting beds so it reduces erosion.

• Loosening soil that is very compact

• Adding soil amendments- if added before planting, sometimes the soil amendments can temporarily change the soil's PH level and even improve water holding capacity and structure of the dirt.

Plant Performance Indicators

• Animal Friendly

• Wind

• Salt

• Depth of the soil

• Overhead wires

• Preference in color and texture

Have you ever wondered why your neighbor's garden looks better than yours and you rarely see them working on the yard? The only difference may be that your neighbor performed a brief site analysis and prepared the landscape before driving to the garden center.

The main factors when selecting which flora to plant in your landscape
includes considering what type of plants will work best in which part of
the yard that meets your personal preference and will withstand the test
of time with healthy and active plant performance
