The benefits of meditation are vast. Whether you strive for spiritual development or personal growth, meditation enhances self-awareness and contentment (which some refer to as happiness or internal peace).

Meditation exerts control over both pain and emotion. Our responses or reactions to pain (whether it be physical, mental, or emotional pain) are activated in and controlled by our minds. We are what we think.
We do what we think. What we think we become. Meditation can help to lessen our responses and control our reactions to pain.

Because meditation slows down breathing and encourages focusing on the breath instead of the monkey chatter, we learn to be still, calm, and quiet. Stress is more manageable, pain is subdued, and our monkey mind retreats and balances.

More and more studies are now relating the physiological benefits that quieting the mind can do for our general well-being. For more information about what the studies show, read Choices to Calm a Sensitized Nervous System.
